Thank You, A Prayer for Liberation

Here is a short Bodhi-inspired thank you prayer for liberation. Repeat each phrase for 1 to 10 minutes:

I notice this breath…thank you breath.
Feel breath caress the body.

I notice this body…thank you body.
Feel the aliveness within.

I notice this mind…thank you mind.
Feel the ripples smooth.

I notice ‘my story’…thank you story.
Feel the loosening of attachment.

I notice life…thank you life.
Feel the connectedness.

Namaste,

Explore Potential Changes

free meditationIf you’re considering a significant change in your life, here is an exercise from spiritual teacher Dick Sutphen that has benefited me greatly over the years. It can assist you in deeply exploring the situation and motivating yourself to take action where it’s of benefit.

Set about 20 minutes aside, and begin by getting yourself in a relaxed, meditative state. Have the intention of connecting with your Higher Self, and answer the following questions, jotting down anything that comes to mind without censoring yourself:

  • To change is to risk, and behind every risk, is a fear of loss of love, loss of control, loss of material possessions, or loss of self-esteem. Which fear applies to the change you are considering?
  • What is the clear purpose of your desire?
  • Often people do not pursue changes until the fear of doing so, is exceeded by the pain of not doing so. How does this relate to your situation? Explore the potential pain of making the change, opposed to continuing to live your life exactly as it is.
  • If you are keeping one foot in the safety zone, refusing to move forward into this change, what do you need to do to make it alright with yourself to act, to take the risk?
  • What is the worst that could happen if you go ahead and make this change, and it does not work out?
  • What is the best that could happen if you go ahead and make the change, and it works out wonderfully?
  • Is the potential loss greater than the potential gain?
  • Who else would like to see you make this change?
  • Who would prefer you did not make this change?
  • If you’re afraid in regard to making this change, what is holding you back?
  • If you make this change, will it result in a more honest and freer life?
  • If you make this change, could it improve the quality of your life?
  • Take a few moments to visualize this change, if everything works out as best as can be.
  • Is this what you want to happen…yes or no?
  • If you do want to make this change in your life, it’s time to call out to the positive powers of the Universe and ask for their assistance in manifesting this change in your life. Commit to acting. You can’t grow without taking chances. And if you’ve decided to make this change in your life, don’t sit back and wait for the perfect moment to act, as it almost never comes. Commit to acting immediately.

Every day is a fresh opportunity to begin again and create the changes our hearts desire.

With love,
Kerri McCutcheon

10 Tips for a Fabulous Summer

Feel Connected, Wherever You Are

summer tips Transport your home office to the park, beach or lake for the day. What better place to brainstorm or get organized than out in nature, inspired by the natural beauty and order of things!

Make room for spontaneity. From May onwards, I have a picnic blanket in my trunk, hiking shoes, maps, and yoga gear all ready for spur of the moment fun. If you’ve never stretched out a map, closed your eyes and pointed…you have to try it for a fabulous day trip! It’s an amazing reminder of the fun we can create along the journey.

Try at least one thing that scares you, but secretly thrills you in a zest for life kind of way. WOW, will you feel good after, when you feel some mastery over your fear, and have been taking steps to live your life so fully!

Create a neighbourhood bucket list of all places you’d like to check out or revisit. In many trips abroad I was always surprised by how many locals hadn’t been to the most fabulous places in their own back yard, and made a note to explore the local treasures right under my own nose too. Each item you check off can bring more appreciation of where you are right now, and feeling more connected to your community.

Engage all your senses consciously for at least a few moments every day. Literally stop and smell the roses, the scent of rain on its way, your fresh laundry. Notice what visually catches your attention too, as that’s what will harmonize you. Recently I’ve been drawn to pink and orange — not usual colours for me, but they seem to be bringing healing waves of unconditional love and joy. I’ll take it!

We have a universal need for touch, protection, and connection. Self-help expert Laura Day invites us to check in on these themes day to day. What texture do you want to wrap yourself in or how do you want to touch or be touched? What step would make you feel more protected right now? How are you being urged to connect?

Reflect on memories of pleasure. Allow 1 or 2 pleasant memories to come forward, remembering everything you experienced moment to moment…taste, touch, sounds, scents, and visuals. Now try to bring some of those ideas into every day tasks, and watch yourself enjoy them more!

Meditate to reconnect with the real you. Beginner meditators learn relaxation techniques to let go of stress and and enjoy a pleasant escape from the pressures of life. What’s so amazing, is that as our journey progresses, we’re able to experience those sweet moments more and more often whether we’re in meditation or not. Instead of meditation being an ‘escape’, we actually experience what’s real — no longer disconnected and ruled by fear, but aligned with the peaceful wisdom of our soul and the innate freedom within.

Spread the love and good cheer! The next time someone asks you how you are, if you’re feeling just how sweet life is, truly share your enthusiasm (and theirs). Have you noticed that we can’t help but smile when we see others laughing and having fun? Throw your arms around the world, and let those giggles out!

“I create pleasure and the state of love in my life every day.” I love this affirmation from Laura Day! Can you feel the words come to life in your body? Try writing the affirmation you love on a sticky note so you see and repeat it often.

Here’s to a fabulous season! If you’re nearby, I’d love to see you at InnerVitality’s Summer Series in Toronto!

Creating a Safe Haven in Meditation

zen livingThrough a regular meditation practice, we can connect with that ‘all is well’ feeling and way of living. Here are some tips for personal enjoyment and comfort while meditating:

  • During guided meditation, always change up any words to suit you.
  • If something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it…your way is the right way for you.
  • Being comfortable is ultimately more important than mastering some type of meditation pose or new technique. Sit comfortably.
  • Stop judging your practice. You showed up, and that’s wonderful. And if you didn’t, your meditation practice will greet you with open arms when you are ready to resume or begin.
  • Hold the intention and trust that you are safe and protected at all times. If you have a lot of fear around meditation, intuition or group situations, part of your self-care may involve seeking help to heal this.
  • Through meditation we often receive clarity on necessary healing and the action steps required to move us forward…be gentle as you transform this so you are not creating new wounds through self-blame.

A Love Affair with the Universe

vitality torontoShakti Gawain beautifully writes, “As we deepen our acceptance of and open ourselves to the infinite love of the universe, a new power flows through us, releasing us from the bondage of our old way of life.” When we connect with universal consciousness we can tap into all the wisdom, love, healing, and creationary power of the universe. Let go of the ego’s need to do it all, and embrace your wholeness and oneness with the most incredible resource bank available! Pure bliss resides here…and you are part of it. The world is our beloved.

Holistic Health Tip:
Creative visualization and affirmations during meditation can work wonders in our bodies and in balancing our mind, emotions, and spirit. I share this simple and beautiful meditation from A Woman’s Book of Meditation. It’s described as a “meditation for love without attachment, for kindness, forgiveness, sweetness, and knowing that God is within you.” That sure sounds like bliss to me…and by the way, men will enjoy it too! Inspiration:
“You are beautiful souls, and one-by-one you are transforming. One-by-one you are becoming more whole and will inherit the Earth. This is living in accordance with spiritual and natural laws — inheriting the Earth is experiencing the beauty and the truth of all that is around you on the Earth plane.” FROM SATYASOUL (OUR ANGELIC BLOG): Avenue of Love >>

Fight or Flow?

flowResistance shows up in our body as dis-ease, headache, joint pain, tightness, anxiety, heartburn, constipation…there are countless examples. What’s happening in our body is always symbolic of what’s happening in our life. As above, so below; as within, so without.

If we are experiencing resistance in our bodies, minds, relationships or day-to-day living ~ asking ourselves whether we are fighting against the situation or flowing through it can begin to point to a solution. Here are a few tips in allowing life to flow through us:

1. Swimming Downstream
Quite simply if we are swimming upstream (trying too hard in an ineffective way), we are unable to access the ease and wellness naturally available to us. It’s similar to putting a cork in our flow of vitality, and life backing up. It’s here we feel the most pain and life’s a struggle. Being tough on ourselves and trying to control what we can’t doesn’t make us strong…but slowing down, accepting, honouring, embracing, and voicing who we are does.

When we let go of control, and importantly, our desire for control, we naturally experience more flow. We can’t be stuck if we are not controlling, and we can’t be swept over by the current if we are actively engaged in living. Flowing with the river allows us to effectively use our energy and receive all the gifts life has to offer.

TIP: If you were to imagine a current of energy in your body, is it heading in a natural direction? Does it feel stuck or clogged anywhere? Let go of struggle. Where can you allow your natural vitality to flow through? Allow your body’s innate intelligence to dictate the flow of your current and smooth out any rough patches. Feel yourself in complete and natural flow.

2. The Power of Grace
Dr. Wayne Dyer suggests there is huge difference between taking motivated action and inspired action in our lives. When we’re motivated, we ram through our ideas (fight); when we’re inspired, an idea gets a hold of our soul (flow). To lead from our soul, is to be in the state of grace.

Author Caroline Myss reminds us of this choice in our interactions. “We can see someone in grace, or choose not to. Grace someone or withhold grace from another.” It’s a lot of hard work to act from this place, yet when we do so, we are partnering with the Divine and more able to access our full potential, and help others in theirs. Challenges may or may not disappear, but our experience is always one of more ease, transformation, and even gratitude.

TIP: If in conflict with another, reflect on what someone acting from grace would do in the same situation. Set your intention to the highest and best outcome for all concerned, and trust it will come to be. Put your hand on your heart before an important conversation, or if the other is open to it, sit back to back (heart centre to heart centre)…and watch as your energy, thoughts and words shift towards something more loving.

3. Winds of Change
Life inevitably rocks us from time-to-time when a tornado of unwanted change sweeps through. Dyer tells us, “When we’re confronted with a life situation we can do nothing about, we’re challenged to change ourselves.” We can be victim or creator. Julia Cameron beautifully writes, “Our dreams may feel thwarted when in reality they are being tempered. We are being shaped to fit a divine purpose. We can cooperate or we can resist.” Perhaps life has just opened a door.

The same seems to apply when we find ourselves stuck at one of life’s crossroads. Caroline Myss says it bluntly, with love, “If you choose the familiar, you’ll fall on your face. Honour your pivotal moment of change. Dare to make the tough choice, then let go of the outcome.” Phew, not easily done, but how liberating to simply go where our soul beckons us, and trust there’s a Divine purpose in it…a gift in becoming more whole.

TIP: I love this affirmation from self-empowerment author Louise Hay: “Life shows me what to do next. Life loves me, and I am safe!”
