10 Tips for a Fabulous Summer

Feel Connected, Wherever You Are

summer tips Transport your home office to the park, beach or lake for the day. What better place to brainstorm or get organized than out in nature, inspired by the natural beauty and order of things!

Make room for spontaneity. From May onwards, I have a picnic blanket in my trunk, hiking shoes, maps, and yoga gear all ready for spur of the moment fun. If you’ve never stretched out a map, closed your eyes and pointed…you have to try it for a fabulous day trip! It’s an amazing reminder of the fun we can create along the journey.

Try at least one thing that scares you, but secretly thrills you in a zest for life kind of way. WOW, will you feel good after, when you feel some mastery over your fear, and have been taking steps to live your life so fully!

Create a neighbourhood bucket list of all places you’d like to check out or revisit. In many trips abroad I was always surprised by how many locals hadn’t been to the most fabulous places in their own back yard, and made a note to explore the local treasures right under my own nose too. Each item you check off can bring more appreciation of where you are right now, and feeling more connected to your community.

Engage all your senses consciously for at least a few moments every day. Literally stop and smell the roses, the scent of rain on its way, your fresh laundry. Notice what visually catches your attention too, as that’s what will harmonize you. Recently I’ve been drawn to pink and orange — not usual colours for me, but they seem to be bringing healing waves of unconditional love and joy. I’ll take it!

We have a universal need for touch, protection, and connection. Self-help expert Laura Day invites us to check in on these themes day to day. What texture do you want to wrap yourself in or how do you want to touch or be touched? What step would make you feel more protected right now? How are you being urged to connect?

Reflect on memories of pleasure. Allow 1 or 2 pleasant memories to come forward, remembering everything you experienced moment to moment…taste, touch, sounds, scents, and visuals. Now try to bring some of those ideas into every day tasks, and watch yourself enjoy them more!

Meditate to reconnect with the real you. Beginner meditators learn relaxation techniques to let go of stress and and enjoy a pleasant escape from the pressures of life. What’s so amazing, is that as our journey progresses, we’re able to experience those sweet moments more and more often whether we’re in meditation or not. Instead of meditation being an ‘escape’, we actually experience what’s real — no longer disconnected and ruled by fear, but aligned with the peaceful wisdom of our soul and the innate freedom within.

Spread the love and good cheer! The next time someone asks you how you are, if you’re feeling just how sweet life is, truly share your enthusiasm (and theirs). Have you noticed that we can’t help but smile when we see others laughing and having fun? Throw your arms around the world, and let those giggles out!

“I create pleasure and the state of love in my life every day.” I love this affirmation from Laura Day! Can you feel the words come to life in your body? Try writing the affirmation you love on a sticky note so you see and repeat it often.

Here’s to a fabulous season! If you’re nearby, I’d love to see you at InnerVitality’s Summer Series in Toronto!

Spring Blooms & their Symbolism

flower totems

So many of us love to welcome spring by bringing fresh flowers into our home and getting out into the garden. Check out which blooms may be right for you, depending on your personality and what would bring balance to your life and home!

“Flowers are the living food of the spirit; they are the symbol of life itself.” ~Charles Masson

Crocus
One of the earliest flowers to bloom in spring, its flowers are delicate and cheerful looking, but can survive strong wind and cool temperatures. Noted for survival, strength, adaptability, resistance, rebirth, awakening, and transition to adulthood. Use them to brighten up any environment and bring heavenly bliss, as well as for goals/themes requiring a big display over its 2-week peak bloom period in spring/fall.

Daffodil
It’s time to get inspired and see yourself in a new light. Said to relax a busy mind, ease insomnia, release self-absorption, balance sexual energies, and channel creative energy. Daffodil’s essence helps connect the subconscious with higher self, reminding of one’s innate beauty, wisdom and vitality. April in Canada is known as daffodil month in support of those living through cancer.

Daisy
Symbolic of the sun, daisy is noted for aligning us with nature, and bringing comfort during grief. A totem flower for those who connect with faeries and other nature spirits, and those who wish to develop creativity and inner strength. Notice when daisy comes into your life, as it is associated with a 2-year cycle; and you may wish to plant it for assistance with a 2-year goal.

Hyacinth
Can connect one with the spirit of youthfulness to believe all is possible. Its keynote is awakening inner beauty, and overcoming jealousy and grief. Also helpful for productivity, creativity, understanding esoteric mysteries, balancing excessive drive/force and those who wish to use gentleness as strength.

Lily of the Valley
There are strong heart associations with Lily of the Valley, from heart opening to the treatment of high blood pressure. It’s common in wedding bouquets as representative of fertility, new life, and establishing one’s place in society. It can connect us with mom or our own mothering qualities, and is useful when creativity and protection is required.

Peony
Noted for healing and artistic opportunities and abilities. Ideal for projects/ideas you wish to ‘bloom’ in late-spring (and outside of early morning hours), when the peony does. Known to distinguish females for their wit as much as their beauty; associated with aristocracy in times past. Reputed to be helpful with auric cleansing and protection, as well as shining one’s inner light outwards.

Periwinkle
Adds support for the spring theme of moving into a new life. This trailing ground cover plant, with bluish-white flowers, encourages extending one’s efforts and not getting stuck in a rut. Associated with healing, magic, protection, renewal, love, and immortality. New rhythms await.

Petunia
Noted for enthusiasm, vitality, consideration of others, and creating mental change. Ideal for aims from spring through fall, when the petunia blooms. It’s funnel-shaped flower can represent responsibility for how we express our thoughts and interact with others in our environment.

Tulip
Associated with self-trust, past life connections, and success. This bloom is said to help one stand on their own, be receptive to spiritual realms and dreams, and pay attention to one’s inner voice. Its essence helps clear the mind, and reminds of the need for greater discernment and being grounded.

Violet
Helpful to simplify your life and take advantage of opportunities at hand. Ideal for those who are self-reliant (or wish to be) and who are adding new growth based on past efforts and results. Encourages a general sense of well-being, peace, modesty, and simplicity. Violet brings associations with the faerie kingdom, clear and understandable dreams, wish fulfillment, and luck.

Have a wonderful spring season!

Is your Inner Commentary Twisting your Hose?

A guest message from Dana Mrkich, February 11, 2013

positive self talkWe’ve all got some kind of running commentary in our heads, acting like the voiceover to our personal life movie. For some it runs from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. For others, especially if you’ve done a certain amount of meditation or inner-work, the commentary has long periods of silence but still pipes up every now and again responding to some challenging situation. The commentary can range from the mundane, running through to do lists, to profound insights and ideas directed by our intuition or higher consciousness.

The type of commentary that is most common however, and the most debilitating, is negative self-talk. We may not even realise the way in which we speak to ourselves, but next time you suddenly feel your mood change, a wave of anger, depression, anxiety or some other emotion taking a hold of you, your body tense up or feel heavy, your solar plexus knot up, your neck tighten – try to remember what thoughts you were just having. Try to remember beyond the topic you were thinking about – let’s say it was worrying about money. What was your commentary saying exactly? “I never have enough”? “Life is always such a struggle?”

We hear these thoughts and believe that they are our truth, because they are reflecting how we think or feel about something in that moment. So we just let the commentary tape keep playing because we assume it’s just voicing what we’re thinking and feeling.

The problem with this is that our commentary tape is not only voicing what we’re thinking and feeling in that moment. The tape is also voicing thoughts and beliefs based on experiences that happened years ago, generations ago to our ancestors and even lifetimes ago! Further, our commentary tape is sending its message forward into our tomorrows! It’s as if it is sending the script for tomorrow’s scenes out ahead of us. We think we show up each morning with a blank page, ready to start fresh, but not so. We actually already have the energetic script set up for us, which we pre-wrote with our former thoughts/beliefs/wounds etc and our physical has to play out to match it. So our yesterday’s thoughts of ‘Life is always such a struggle’ set up situations for us in our today’s and tomorrow’s that are a physical match to that. The physical isn’t punishing us or judging us, it’s just responding in the exact same way the props guys and actors and wardrobe department respond to whatever directives have been put out by the screenwriters and film director.

The good thing about this knowledge is that we can change our energetic script anytime. We can replace the negative self-talk with positive self-talk – or even silence is a better alternative if positive self-talk is too big a stretch right now.

Imagining something you enjoy like the beach or a fun activity, is another better alternative. You can picture a big red stop sign and say stop in your mind anytime you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, and if you go blank after that it’s okay.

There’s a lot of emphasis out there on positive self-talk, but it’s okay to have a bridge until you can get to the positive stuff. The bridge acts like a circuit breaker, disconnecting you in that moment from the negative stuff. In that moment of disconnection, you’re automatically shifted into your authentic flow space so positive self-talk is more of an optional extra choice anyway rather than mandatory.

vitalityThink of yourself as being part of a long hose connected up to Source Energy. When you go into negative self-talk, you’re twisting the hose making it really difficult for good stuff to flow through to you: wellbeing, happy feelings, abundance, opportunities. When you let go of the negative stuff, the hose untwists and goes back to it’s normal flow state. We don’t really have to do anything or say anything special to be in our optimal state – it’s more that we need to learn how to stop doing whatever it is that blocks us from our optimal state.

So it’s very empowering to find out: in which ways do you twist your hose? Do you get caught up in negative thoughts and self-talk? Did you know that just because you think something about yourself, it doesn’t mean it’s true! Just because you think “I’m such an idiot” or “I’m not good enough” doesn’t mean you have to believe it. It’s okay to say to the part of yourself that tells you regularly “I’m not good enough”: “I AM good enough.” It’s okay to say to the part of yourself that has as it’s daily mantra “We never have enough money”: “We are always taken care of.” If that feels like a lie, try another tactic. Come from a more proactive stance: “I now open to new ways of receiving, so that we always have enough. Thank you.”

Over this next week pay attention to your inner commentary. Pay attention to your moods and feelings and check into what kind of thoughts led up to those feelings. Our inner commentary tape has a lot of gifts and messages for us, but left unattended it can run amok and re-create situations and patterns in our life that have long passed their use by date. It’s up to us to check in with it regularly.

The Numerology of 2013 ~ a Global 6 Year

2013 numerology2013 ushers in the numerical vibration of 6 (2+0+1+3=6). High on our global report card for a ‘6 Year’ will be to seek HARMONY, open our heart, be of service, enjoy family and friends, provide counsel, and accept responsibility for what we have created and are adding to our community and the world.

Venus is the ruler of the number 6 (as well as the astrological signs of Taurus and Libra). Other ‘6 Year’ Venusian keywords include: peace, acceptance, balance, global cooperation, family values, relationships with women and money, beauty, love, sensuality, receptivity, charity, and duty.

Each number carries energy that can be used in high or low vibration, both ends of the spectrum, abundance or lack. If we are experiencing any of the following ‘6 Year’ themes, know that we have both the heightened challenge and opportunity to transform it during 2013: a tendency to go to extremes, self-sacrifice, clinging to beliefs at any cost, intolerance, condescension, judgement, self-centredness, vanity, and overspending.

Moving forward from 2012 to 2013
Let’s review how the ‘5 Year’ of 2012 (2+0+1+2=5) played out on the world stage: CHANGE, breakdown, motion, obstacles, freedom, tests, adventure, reaction, communication, commerce, analysis, anger, intelligence, loss, and adaptation. Did ‘Shift Happen’ last year, or what?

Although the end of a World Age didn’t find us rescued from being mere mortals or saved of personal/global responsibility, we saw that nothing stays the same, everything false eventually falls away, and all that requires healing will surface. We are reminded that balance and peace in the world, begins within, and of the inherent beauty in our transformative journey as individuals, society, and planet Earth.

From Mind to Heart
Yes, humanity’s vibration is rising. Going forward, we’re more equipped to awaken the human heart, our collective idea of success can move from the ego to the inner domain, and emotions may run high. There could be a surge of Make Love, Not War with a new world spin: Be Love, Not Separation, Create Love, Not Suffering, Choose Love, Not Control, or Embody Love, Not Fear.

Family values, love relationships, and women are highlighted in 2013, and come up for further review. It is our heart sensors now that will determine what feels right, loving, balanced, and true. Relationship break-ups happening in a ‘6 Year’ may have been brewing for a while. On the other hand, making new or renewed commitments is likely for relationships aligned with mutual values; and this can be a popular year for marriage or setting up a new home.

It’s common to take on extra duties and commitments of various types in a ‘6 Year’, so set healthy boundaries and be aware of over-responsibility (or lack of responsibility). We each are but one person, and our greatest gift to others can be simply, yet profoundly, living our own truth. When we witness people caught up in Old World energies and not connected to higher truths, we can make a big difference by offering our compassion and support instead of judgement.

How, why, and where we as a nation, person, or organization place our focus, will be very revealing in how situations unfold. We are moving from power over to inner power, and whoever is leading from the heart this year will be truly magnetic, and experience the most rewards.

Also in Focus in 2013
Power is shifting into the hands of the community. What we view as our community, of course, has changed to incorporate a much larger sphere (helped by our social media revolution and expanding consciousness).

People stressed out and disenchanted by events of recent years could make great efforts to minimize chaos. Many may move off the grid completely, developing more communities who live harmoniously off (with) the land and their own resourcefulness. How we protect our resources and nurture ourselves will be in the spotlight, and we may see a renewed interest in sustainability, organics, and wellness.

2013 could bring a renaissance in music, poetry, drama, dance, fashion, interior design, and other arts. The vibration of 6 can magnetize a need for pleasant surroundings, sensuality, and a love of beautiful people and things. Increasingly, it will be necessary to spend only within our means and in accordance with our true values to feel harmony within and avert a larger debt crisis.

Our Guiding Light
Let’s be kind to ourself and others as we continue to lay the groundwork for the New Earth. Detach from fear. Clear your mind and body, and remember to pass beliefs through your heart. Together, let’s shine our heart lights into the new world!

2013 Keys to Healing & Balance

A guest message from Rev. Irma Kaye Sawyer

Hello friends. Welcome to 2013 – the Year of the Water Snake. After talking to a few people who have expressed some concerns, I decided to explore the topic of healing and balance. For many, 2012 was a difficult, even traumatic year. There were also many people that transitioned in 2012, and some of these were young people, or others who death came at a great shock. There have also been losses of other kinds due to economics, unemployment, natural disasters and other issues. The challenge for many of us is to stay *present* and not to get lost in energies of thoughts of the past while still being open to the truth of what we are feeling, as denial is not conducive to healing.

I see the Snake Medicine that 2013 brings can be of great benefit to us. On the high side of this energy it is all about healing, magic, higher consciousness and transformation. Since 2010 especially, we have been undergoing a significant transformation personally and collectively. It will continue to important to avoid the low/shadow side of the Snake energy which is related to deception, indolence, trickery and ‘taking the easy way out’ spiritually, through manipulative or otherwise nefarious means. By now we have gotten used to doing the work that true spiritual growth requires, so we have had some good training and preparation for this time.

In my work with the Akashic Wisdom Keepers over the years I have been shown something called the Physical Avatar. This is an energetic structure in Spirit that works with the emotional and physical health of a person and is highly intelligent and dynamic. It is an aspect of the Oversoul that is outside of mind and emotion and can often see the bigger picture or lesson of what is going on. As we evolve and grow as human beings as part of our awakening process we no longer have to be victim to illness of dis-ease, and have tools to get at the root of the problem: whether it be genetic, karmic, mental and so forth.

I have also been in communication with the General Physical Avatar of the All in the Akashic Records and it shared this helpful information for our benefit:

    1. The challenge of 2013 is to *release* all that has gone before. To allow yourself to grieve and feel, as it is important to not deny emotion, but it is also important to not *dwell* in them either.

    2. Clean and pure WATER will be especially significant as a cleanser of toxins out of the body and also out of the planet. In the physical body the organs related to water are the bladder and kidneys. According to Chinese Medicine these organs are related to anger and fear, so it will also be important to keep emotional balance in those areas; not only personally, but collectively also.

    3. Gathering the Heart: 2013 is a Universal ‘6’ Year which rules harmony, compassion and goodwill towards others. Generating heart power through compassion, meditation, light work and service to others will be keys to not only our own health and happiness, but also for the all.

    4. It is important to continue to MOVE energies out of the body via exercise and also spiritual means. Excessive fatigue (if not related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or other medical issues) is often a sign that the body may be bogged down with too much energetic material to process. The cleaner we can keep our energy field, the better. While this is especially important to the empathic and highly sensitive, it will also be increasingly important to everyone; as the new, higher frequencies impacting planet are continuing to affect us and our spiritual process of transformation. I have shared a technique below to assist in this area.

Physical Avatar Technique of Chakra & Aura Cleansing

    1. Set sacred space by burning sage or cedar, lighting a candle, etc. Be sure to shut off cell phones and find a quiet working space where you will not be disturbed.

    2. Say aloud or through intention: “I invoke my Physical Avatar that holds the knowledge of my optimum health to oversee this session. I call upon my highest level Angels, Guides and Loved Ones to be present with me also. I am open to any and all information that they wish to share with me today. I set this sacred space with divine intention for my highest and best health on all levels: emotional, mental, spiritual and physical.”

    3. Starting at the Crown Chakra (on top of the head), intend that *any* and *all* mis-qualified energies, emotions and thought forms that are no longer serving the highest loving context for your life, be released to the Violet Flame of Transmutation. This also includes the emotions and thought forms of others (this is especially important for those that identify as empathic and/or highly sensitive.)

Nautilus Shell4. Go through each chakra (energy center of the body). Do not rush and take your time with this. Allow any emotion to come up and out, and do your best to not judge any of this material as it appears to you. Have paper and pen nearby to jot down any intuitive impressions you may receive in the session. The symbol that I was given for this process is the nautilus shell (depicted here). Feel free to use this symbol in this process as you are so guided.

    5. Now visualize and/or intend that the highest frequency healing light is circling through your aura in a front-to-back motion. White, gold and/or violet are good color rays to work with as they are of a universal and high frequency, but please do work with whatever color you are guided to for you. Start at the head and going down the front of your body all the way to the Earth Star Chakra in the earth below your feet and back up again. Sit with these energies as long as you are guided.

    6. When you feel complete, thank the light beings and your Physical Avatar for being present, and close the session. It is a positive practice to dedicate the work to all sentient beings, or otherwise offer a blessing for all.

I do hope you enjoy this process and find it helpful. Please feel free to share your impressions and experiences with me.

Rise & Shine!

HYDRATION TIP | Perk Up
lemon waterBe gentle on your adrenals and digestive system (that can get oh so stressed when we are) and drink a glass of fresh juice or water with lemon first thing in the morning.

An excellent way to hydrate, wake up, and perk up the body naturally prior to the more jarring effects of coffee/caffeine. Rise and shine!
