Every Second Counts

power of nowToday is a unique day. There will never be another day like it. Tomorrow is a day away and yesterday is already in the past, yet no day is the same; each is unique. Yet how many of us spend each unique day thinking about the next day, week, month or year rather than thinking about the present moment? How many of us ignore the present and focus on moving forward, pushing towards goals, plans or dreams hoping that life will become ‘complete’ once we have achieved them?

Whilst we have a good idea of where we’ll be and what we’ll be doing tomorrow and the day after that, the reality is that we can never be truly sure of what may happen between now and then. Whilst we all have plans, dreams and things to do, we never know what is around the next corner. Obviously we hope than any unexpected events or surprises are good ones, but even this is unknowable.

Yet, we all have goals, plans and dreams, and whilst we can never be sure what may happen in the next second, let alone the next month or year, we have a choice. We can either choose to follow our dreams and live every moment to the fullest in the process, or we can err on the side of caution, holding back until we find more certainty or clarity, or hoping that events will happen that will catapult us from where we are now to where we want to be. Sadly, the latter may mean a long wait, for we can never have a 100% guarantee when it comes to life, plans or dreams; for the Universe just isn’t made that way.

Life is for living; it is not a rehearsal…

So, do we choose to live life to the fullest, making the most of every moment, or do we allow ourselves to become paralyzed in fear and indecision, afraid to take that leap of faith towards our dreams through fear that we may not reach our goal? When we think of things this way, who would willingly choose the latter?! Yet, how many of us do choose the latter every single day through our fears of stepping into the unknown or through a fear of living consciously in the present moment, surrendering to the Universal flow?

Of course, life carries no guarantees, but it seems so important to make a conscious choice as to how we want to live life. We can empower ourselves and embrace life fully, living each day as it comes, working towards our dreams and taking a chance that we might fail or we might just soar to new heights and to new joy creating abundance on all levels of our lives, or we can keep the proverbial apple cart in perfect balance afraid to dislodge even one apple through a fear of what may happen next. Even apples rot in time if they are left unturned….

Life is for living; it is not a rehearsal. Embracing life sounds so easy, but the reality can be somewhat harder. The reason for this is that every day is unique, and we can never know what’s around the next corner! At the same time, life gets in the way! As humans we complicate things; we tie things in knots through over-thinking, and we get stuck in repeating patterns and cycles. In order to break free, we need to make a conscious choice to step beyond fear and to make the most of every single moment that life has to offer.emember, today is a unique day. There will never be another day like it. So, why not make the most of it and live consciously, awakened, and fully in the moment? Why not love life, live life and be life?

Fight or Flow?

flowResistance shows up in our body as dis-ease, headache, joint pain, tightness, anxiety, heartburn, constipation…there are countless examples. What’s happening in our body is always symbolic of what’s happening in our life. As above, so below; as within, so without.

If we are experiencing resistance in our bodies, minds, relationships or day-to-day living ~ asking ourselves whether we are fighting against the situation or flowing through it can begin to point to a solution. Here are a few tips in allowing life to flow through us:

1. Swimming Downstream
Quite simply if we are swimming upstream (trying too hard in an ineffective way), we are unable to access the ease and wellness naturally available to us. It’s similar to putting a cork in our flow of vitality, and life backing up. It’s here we feel the most pain and life’s a struggle. Being tough on ourselves and trying to control what we can’t doesn’t make us strong…but slowing down, accepting, honouring, embracing, and voicing who we are does.

When we let go of control, and importantly, our desire for control, we naturally experience more flow. We can’t be stuck if we are not controlling, and we can’t be swept over by the current if we are actively engaged in living. Flowing with the river allows us to effectively use our energy and receive all the gifts life has to offer.

TIP: If you were to imagine a current of energy in your body, is it heading in a natural direction? Does it feel stuck or clogged anywhere? Let go of struggle. Where can you allow your natural vitality to flow through? Allow your body’s innate intelligence to dictate the flow of your current and smooth out any rough patches. Feel yourself in complete and natural flow.

2. The Power of Grace
Dr. Wayne Dyer suggests there is huge difference between taking motivated action and inspired action in our lives. When we’re motivated, we ram through our ideas (fight); when we’re inspired, an idea gets a hold of our soul (flow). To lead from our soul, is to be in the state of grace.

Author Caroline Myss reminds us of this choice in our interactions. “We can see someone in grace, or choose not to. Grace someone or withhold grace from another.” It’s a lot of hard work to act from this place, yet when we do so, we are partnering with the Divine and more able to access our full potential, and help others in theirs. Challenges may or may not disappear, but our experience is always one of more ease, transformation, and even gratitude.

TIP: If in conflict with another, reflect on what someone acting from grace would do in the same situation. Set your intention to the highest and best outcome for all concerned, and trust it will come to be. Put your hand on your heart before an important conversation, or if the other is open to it, sit back to back (heart centre to heart centre)…and watch as your energy, thoughts and words shift towards something more loving.

3. Winds of Change
Life inevitably rocks us from time-to-time when a tornado of unwanted change sweeps through. Dyer tells us, “When we’re confronted with a life situation we can do nothing about, we’re challenged to change ourselves.” We can be victim or creator. Julia Cameron beautifully writes, “Our dreams may feel thwarted when in reality they are being tempered. We are being shaped to fit a divine purpose. We can cooperate or we can resist.” Perhaps life has just opened a door.

The same seems to apply when we find ourselves stuck at one of life’s crossroads. Caroline Myss says it bluntly, with love, “If you choose the familiar, you’ll fall on your face. Honour your pivotal moment of change. Dare to make the tough choice, then let go of the outcome.” Phew, not easily done, but how liberating to simply go where our soul beckons us, and trust there’s a Divine purpose in it…a gift in becoming more whole.

TIP: I love this affirmation from self-empowerment author Louise Hay: “Life shows me what to do next. Life loves me, and I am safe!”

Giggle-gasms!

When was the last time you allowed yourself a huge belly laugh…the kind that feels like your sides may burst or you’ll keel over off the chair from laughter? Doesn’t the term giggle-gasm make you smile? I heard it from author/speaker Barbara Carrellas…speaking of how laughter, sexuality, creativity, and spiritual energy are really all the same thing. When we are in flow, we offer no resistance, and are lovingly connected to the Source of all life and all possibilities. Laughter also releases some wonderfully healing and rejuvenating endorphins.

Gratitude & Flow

In Flow with the Universe

innervitality in flow with the universeIf we start to say thank you for even the smallest things we take for granted, our sense of well-being begins to grow and has a marvellous ripple effect…and we find more and more to be grateful for, and we attract even more joyful and positive experiences.

Deepak Chopra writes, in “our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives”. He gives three tips on how to put the Law of Giving and Receiving in effect in one’s life:

1. Bring everyone you encounter a gift ~ perhaps a compliment, flower, or prayer to begin circulating abundance in your life and theirs.
2. Gratefully receive all gifts life offers. Be open to gifts of nature and gifts from others ~ be it in material form, a compliment, or prayer.
3. Commit to keep wealth circulating in your life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts ~ caring, affection, appreciation and love. Silently wish each person you meet happiness, joy and laughter.

As we begin to feel gratitude in our hearts, it starts to spread warmth and light throughout our cells and body, then radiates positive expectation into the world. When we act (or are around people who are) grateful for our lives and experiences, it’s absolutely contagious! We stop complaining. We feel a cascade of greater harmony, divine order, and understanding. We begin to expect miracles and even cultivate a sense of our prayers already having been answered. It is then that we are truly open, truly living, and a vessel for the divine in our own lives and those of others.
